DRAG CULTURE IN D.C.
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
DRAG CULTURE
Ronnie originally came up with the idea because he wanted to go to a drag show. We wanted to focus in on drag culture because of the contrast between the political message of D.C. under a Trump administration and the positive message radiating at Nellie's and other LGBTQ+ spaces. The drag queens we talked to and interviewed each had their own unique stories about navigating the world as transgender women.
WHAT YOU'LL FIND
ON OUR SITE
Stories & resources
To tell the story of drag culture and LGBTQ+ spaces in Washington, D.C., we made a video showcasing some of the employees at Nellie's Sports Bar. We also included two features on some of the queens who work at Nellie's. You can find more information on Nellie's and Casa Ruby's, a homeless shelter for LGBTQ+ people, in the menu of our website. The LGBTQ+ tab links to other resources in the D.C. area.
